OBTAINING A RENTAL PERMIT

The Town of Huntington requires a rental permit for all one and two-family homes, condos, townhouses, apartment complexes, multiple residencies and mixed use occupancy buildings which are rented out. These permits are not applicable to dwellings with legal, accessory apartment permits, as these special use permits have their own rules, regulations and requirements. Rental permits are not required  for rental properties when:

  • The owner lives on the premises (note: accessory apartment permits are special use permits, and do not apply to this section of code)
  • The owner's immediate family lives on the premises
  • There is a homeowner's association on site
  • There is a property management office on site that is accessible to tenants

If you are an owner who wishes to rent or your circumstances require a rental permit, please follow the instructions below for an initial application.
