Parks & Beach Maintenance

Sponsoring/co-sponsoring and supporting acquisitions of open space and park enhancements for recommended neighborhood improvements based on recommendations from the Town’s Environmental Open Space and Park Fund (EOSPA).

  • Billy Joel Park – install a new bulkhead and perimeter railing
  • Fleets Cove Beach – a new playground and accessible pathway
  • Heckscher Park – providing a new fence that would visually and compatibly denote the significance of the park. This replaces an aged chain-link fencing with estate steel picket fencing at the Main Street, Madison Street and Prime Avenue perimeters.
  • West Hills Road – adding new concrete curbs, sidewalks, ADA-compliant ramps, catch basins, and aprons along both sides of West Hills road between W. 19th and W. 22nd streets
  • Depot Road streetscape improvements, including curbs and ADA-compliant sidewalks and ramps along the east side of Depot Road between Vondran Street and Brompton Place.
  • Refurbishing 35 historic markers located in Town right-of-ways, which is more cost-effective and will last longer than purchasing new markers.

Co-sponsoring a resolution renaming Sweet Hollow Park as Alissa Sue Taff Sweet Hollow Park. Alissa’s legacy lives on in her community service in various civic and education leadership roles, including but not limited to serving as president of the Half Hollow Hills School Board for two terms and as a longtime president of the Sweet Hollow Civic Association; she served on the Town’s Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee; and she was an instrumental figure in creating a partnership between the Melville community, the Town and B.A.P.S Shri Swaminarayan resulting in the construction of the B.A.P.S. temple on Deshon Drive, the creation of Sweet Hollow Park on Old Country Road and the Club at Melville senior affordable housing community on Deshon Drive.

Sponsors annual volunteer-based flower plantings and beach cleanups as part of her “Keep Huntington Beautiful” initiative. Our town beaches are the gemstones in Huntington’s crown and truly rival any others found throughout the world. We are so fortunate to have these beautiful beaches and appreciate the volunteers that work to protect our Town’s natural assets.
