Recycling
Some alarming statistics from The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA): EPA has collected and reported data on the generation and disposal of waste in the United States for more than 30 years. The information is used to measure the success of waste reduction and recycling programs across the country.
In 2010, Americans generated about 250 million tons of trash, and recycled and composted over 85 million tons of this material, equivalent to a 34.1 percent recycling rate. On average, we recycled and composted 1.51 pounds out of our individual waste generation of 4.43 pounds per person per day. There is more information available on local recycling programs through the Town's Department of Environmental Waste Management.
