Reclamation / Infrastructure/ Repair
As land is developed, infrastructure is placed to manage the
flow of surface water through urbanized areas and direct stormwater flows away
from areas that may cause property damage. The repair of currently degraded
infrastructure
and/or
placement
of
new structures
must consider the net effect to the condition of the watershed.
The Fuch’s Pond Reclamation project is a recent
example of infrastructure repair implemented to address aged and degraded
structures, which resulted in addressing flooding concern and enhanced
ecological functions with the pond system. Watershed stewardship can promote the implementation of green infrastructure and careful planning to make future land use decisions which consider water health.
