Town of Huntington, NY - News Details

4/28/2022 - Former New York State Supreme Court Justice Carol MacKenzie Joins Town of Huntington as Administrative Law Judge, Presides Over First Trial

Huntington – Former New York State Supreme Court Justice Carol MacKenzie presided over her first trial as an administrative law judge for the Town of Huntington Bureau of Administrative Adjudication on April 28.

“The appointment of the Honorable Carol MacKenzie and her acceptance of this post to serve the Town in this new capacity is significant,” stated Supervisor Ed Smyth. “It underscores the importance of the first Town tribunal of its kind on Long Island, which enables Huntington to adjudicate code violations internally and expeditiously.”

“I could think of no person better qualified to serve than retired State Supreme Court Justice Carol MacKenzie. She is a well-regarded jurist and I will rely heavily on her experience and knowledge,” said Chief Administrative Law Judge Joshua C. Price.

Retired New York State Supreme Court Justice Carol MacKenzie, a Huntington resident and former Suffolk County District Court Judge, was appointed by the Town’s Chief Administrative Law Judge, Joshua Price, to his team of administrative law judges on Thursday, March 31; Judge MacKenzie was sworn in the same day, she presided over her first case with the Town on April 28.

Hon. Carol MacKenzie was appointed to the Bureau’s appellate board to a term expiring February 11, 2025. She will also serve as a backup to the Chief Judge to hear cases when he is unavailable to sit on the bench; on those cases, Judge Price will serve as an appellate judge.

Hon. Carol MacKenzie, a Huntington resident, was appointed to Suffolk County District Court in 1998, elected to Suffolk County Family Court in 2005, and elected as a Justice of the Suffolk County Supreme Court, Tenth Judicial District of New York in 2006. After her retirement, Judge MacKenzie served as a mediator for the Suffolk County Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Program. Judge MacKenzie has been a practicing attorney since 1988 and taught as an adjunct professor at Touro Law Center.
