Councilman Mark Cuthbertson has served on the Huntington Town Board since January 1998.  Since then, Cuthbertson has kept his pledge to put politics aside and be part of a bi-partisanship government that has marked the most significant turnaround in local government on Long Island. Throughout his tenure, Cuthbertson has voted to reduce and stabilize taxes in Huntington by working with the other members of the Town Board, to place performance over partisanship.

Throughout his time in office, Mark Cuthbertson has focused on the area of economic development and job creation and has used his background in real estate law to attract several major projects in the Route 110 corridor including Canon USA and Rubie’s Costumes.

Mark Cuthbertson is always focused on improving the quality of life for all of the residents of Huntington.  Recently, he has sponsored legislation to ban smoking on or near athletic fields and anti-tethering legislation for the better treatment of dogs within the town.  He works tirelessly to crack down on establishments with extensive histories of violence such as Melissa Restaurant and Bar in Huntington Station and promotes boating safety throughout our waterways.  Cuthbertson has sponsored sweeping environmental legislation to preserve hillside areas in the Town, to promote renewable energy, to update code enforcement and to preserve open spaces.  In addition, Cuthbertson strives to boost the local economy and support local businesses.

Mark Cuthbertson's recent honors include the New York State Recreation and Park Society Service Award which recognized his legislation over the years on open and recreational spaces, and the New York Police Chief's Benevolent Association's 2016 Public Service Award in recognition of his outstanding service and commitment to the Town of Huntington and local/state law enforcement initiatives. Past awards include the Long Island Business News Best Public-Private Partnership for the Canon project in 2008, the Smart Growth Visionary Award, 2007 Regional Commuter Choice Award and the 2008 Tobacco Control Champion Award.
