PSA: WWII Veterans Wall
Twenty-one years ago, we dedicated the monument to those who served in World War II. It is one of the centerpieces of Veterans Plaza on the front lawn of Town Hall. The monument has 6,000 names on it. These are people who served in World War II and who lived in Huntington at some point in their lives.
Over the years, we have opened the monument for periods of time to accept new names. And we are here to tell you that we are opening the monument for what might be one last time, if you are a World War II veteran and your name is not yet on this monument, or if you are a family member who wants to honor a loved one, now is your chance to add a name to this impressive memorial.
Anybody can submit a name, as long as you have a copy of the veteran’s discharge papers and proof that they lived in Huntington. If you don’t have the papers, we can help you with that, too. And we will help you fill out the required form.
If you would like to show your appreciation of the men and women that served our great nation you can make a donation to the Veteran’s Advisory Board 501c3 non-for profit organization to offset the cost of adding the names to the monument. Please make your check payable to the Huntington Human Service Institute Inc. note in the memo line for WWII Memorial and mail your check to 100 Main Street, Huntington, New York, 11743. For more details, call the Town’s Veterans Affairs coordinator at 631-351-3012. Call now – we don’t know how long we will keep the wall open to accept new names.
This is the Town’s way of remembering those who sacrificed to serve our county during The Greatest War. And it is all of our chances to donate to show the servicemen and women we appreciate all you have done and we will never forget you. Let Huntington show our World War II veterans and all our veterans, we continue to salute you.
