 Citizens Campaign for the Environment (CCE) is a statewide 80,000-member organization that engages in environmental education, research, lobbying and public outreach to mobilize public support for a strong environmental agenda in New York State. 
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Region 1 Office, located in Stony Brook, serves Nassau and Suffolk counties. 
Suffolk County departments of Health Services (HS) and Economic Development & Planning (EDP)  protect water quality.  HS protects ground and surface waters through monitoring, testing and enforcement. EDP oversees planning and grants for Water Quality infrastructure improvements.
The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS) at Stony Brook University is the State’s center for marine and atmospheric research, education, and public service.  The faculty is internationally recognized for cutting edge research in the atmospheric and oceanographic sciences. 

The Sea Grant College Program is a joint Federal/State venture with universities around the US. New York Sea Grant, one of the largest, is a cooperative between NOAA, SUNY and Cornell University, with administrative offices at Stony Brook University’s School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences.

The Long Island Sound Study (LISS) is a cooperative partnership between USEPA and the states of New York, and Connecticut. Formed in 1985, it unites federal and state agencies, user groups, researchers, concerned organizations and individuals dedicated to restoration and protection of Long Island Sound.
The Greater Huntington Council of Yacht and Boating Clubs serves as an advocate for the recreational boating community. GHCYBC encourages the sport, promotes safe seamanship and supports environmental protection and marine safety.  

Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor Protection Committee conducts water quality monitoring in Oyster Bay and Cold Spring Harbor, sponsors community events on the water and beach and works with citizens and local government for wetland restoration and habitat protection. 

 The Town of Huntington's study of the Crab Meadow Watershed Study is being conducted with a grant from the Long Island Sound Futures Fund managed in a partnership between the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) and USEPA.
