Fluorescent Bulb Disposal
Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL’s) are energy efficient bulbs that use 75% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs and last up to ten times longer. While they are good for reducing energy people should also be aware that CFL’s contain very small amounts of mercury. If these bulbs are discarded in normal trash or curbside recycling containers after they burn out they will break and could release some mercury into the environment.
Please take any CFL’s that burn out to the Town’s Recycling Center (631-427-6377 or 631-446-3653), located at 641 New York Avenue.
Incandescent light bulbs can be disposed of in your household trash.
