Inspections 

Purpose:
Inspections are required to verify work is being performed in accordance with active permits & approved plans.
Consult Checklist provided with permit.

Schedule Building & Plumbing inspection (generally scheduled 10-14 days out, plan accordingly):

Permits submitted on or after 4/1/24 through the online portal
please request inspections by clicking the Inspection Step and selecting "New Inspection".

Permits submitted before 4/1/24, please email - 

  • Building: bldginspect@huntingtonny.gov 
  • Plumbing: plmbinspect@huntingtonny.gov 

Typical Building Inspections would include, but are not limited to:

  • Footings
    • Forms & reinforcing steel ( re-bar) if required
    • Keyway inspection for vertical reinforced steel
    • Keyway inspection with dowel and foundation reinforcement (if required)
  • Foundation after waterproofing (if required) and prior to backfill      
  • Strapping and Framing (note: framing cannot start until foundation location survey is approved; if required)
  • Fire caulk/Air Sealing and Insulation (after the exterior is complete)
  • Final Building (move-in ready)
  • Retaining walls
    • Footing
    • Wall as they are being constructed (check with inspector)
    • Final
  • Open hole (pool demo before backfill)
  • Pool final & drywell before backfilling
  • Drainage
  • Curbs, sidewalks & paving
  • Grading & excavation

Typical Plumbing Inspections would include, but not be limited to:

  • Waste, drain, vent & water piping
  • Rough
    • Testing for all gas installations
    • Final inspection for all plumbing
  • Gas Pressure test 

Notes: Other Permits/Approvals/Documents that may be required:

  • Hood & Duct Systems (on Portal)
  • Elevators (on Portal for Residential or Commercial)
  • Awnings (on Portal for Residential or Commercial)
  • Sign Permit (631) 351-3140
  • Highway Department Permits (631) 351-3075
    • Construction within any town right of way
    • Hold Harmless letter for structure, fixture, or device on town right of way
  • Final Planning Approval
  • Final Suffolk County Department of Health Services Approval (septic system) – (631) 852-5700
  • Fire Marshal (when alarms and sprinklers are required)
