Please stop in the Senior Center and meet our Social Worker, Jeannine Comito, LMSW who facilitates our Caregiver Support Group and Bereavement Support Groups.
Caregiver Support Services at the Senior Center includes a daytime Caregiver Support Group that most times meets the first and third Thursday of each month, and a variety of alternative stress management activities, including yoga.
The Senior Division's Initial Bereavement Support Group as well as Next Steps Bereavement Support Group provides education about the grief process, helps build healthy coping skills, and provides an opportunity to meet others who are experiencing loss. A brief intake and registration paperwork are required before joining the group. If interested, please contact Jeannine (631) 351-3253 Ext. 3780 or JComito@HuntingtonNY.gov.
Included in our Support Services, are two annual Caregiver Support Events that provide education for those caring for an affected individual as well as relaxation and respite.
Respite Care is provided for your loved one while the primary caregiver attends the event. Please call two days in advance for a respite care appointment, Rachel Michaelis (631) 351-3293.
Jeannine Comito, LMSW provides referrals and assistance to federal, state and local benefit programs including Medicare, Medicaid, Community Medicaid, Food Stamps and HEAP.
Senior advocate services are provided at the Senior Center by Suffolk County Office for the Aging (SCOFA) on a monthly basis, usually the third Wednesday of the month, when we are privileged to have the help of the County's staff member, Fanchea Pascarella.
