Northport Harbor Water Quality Protection Committee
The Northport Harbor Water Quality Protection Committee (NHWQPC) was established in 2010 to develop an action plan to restore water quality in the tidal areas of Northport Harbor and Bay and contiguous waters known as the "Northport Bay Complex."
These waters fall variously within the jurisdiction and control of three municipalities: the Town of Huntington, the Village of Northport and the Village of Asharoken.
While advisory in nature, the Committee provides a dynamic forum that brings together the diverse talents of public officials serving at different levels of government, academics, environmental advocates and local stakeholders.
The Committee has demonstrated the ability to overcome the bureaucratic obstacles that can often delay projects where multiple jurisdictions and lines of authority overlap.
