6/24/2021 - Huntington Holds Final Virtual Town Board Meeting, to Meet In-Person at Town Hall July 13
The Huntington Town Board held its June 15, 2021 meeting remotely and broadcast meeting audio and video live for its final virtual Town Board meeting; in-person meetings will resume at Town Hall for the July 13, 2021 meeting.
“We will see you in person at the July 13th Town Board meeting, when the we will officially resume meetings in the Town Board Room at Town Hall. We will also return to the in-person signup process for speaking at public hearings on the day of the meeting in the Town Hall lobby,” said Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci. Masks will be required to enter the building.
At the request of the applicant, the Town Board adjourned from June 15, 2021 to Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 7:00 PM the public hearing to consider adopting Local Law Introductory Number 1-2021, considering zone change application #2020-ZM-448, Huntington Hospital, to change the zoning from R-10 & R-20 Residence Districts to C-1 Office Residence District for the properties located on the north and south sides of View Acre Drive, east of Park Avenue, Huntington, SCTM # 0400-074-01-020 & 074-02- (011, 012, 013, 014, 015, 017.001, 017.002).
The Town Board scheduled public hearings for the Tuesday, July 13, 2021 Town Board meeting at 2:00 PM to consider:
- Issuing a Certificate of Approval in an Historic DistrictRe: 156 Main Street, Cold Spring Harbor – Cold Spring Harbor Historic District.
- Adopting Local Law Introductory No. 35-2021 amending the Uniform Traffic Code of the Town of Huntington, Chapter 3, Article II, §3-3, Schedule J.Re: Manor Place - Huntington Station - Parking Restrictions.
- Adopting Local Law Introductory No.36-2021 amending the Uniform Traffic Code of the Town of Huntington, Chapter 5, §5-1, Schedule M, and Chapter 5 §5-1, Schedule O.Re: West 18th Street Huntington Station – Commercial Vehicle and Truck Exclusions; to replace a "no heavy trucking" exclusion with a "commercial vehicle" exclusion, regardless of vehicle weight capacity, to ensure that West 18th Street in Huntington Station (between West Hills Road and New York Avenue) would not be used as thoroughfare for commercial vehicle traffic; this was initiated at the request of residents and after consulting with the Suffolk County Police Department, which would be responsible for enforcing said violations.
- Adopting Local Law Introductory No. 37-2021 amending the Code of the Town of Huntington, Chapter 78 (Animals), Article VII (Deer Management), §78-41 (Permitted Acts), Chapter 87 (Building Construction), Article VII (Definitions), §87-46 (Definition of Terms), Article VIII (General Restrictions and Requirements), §87-52 (Fences, Freestanding and Retaining Walls), and Chapter 198 (Zoning), Article I (General Provisions), §198-2 (Definitions and Word Usage); to allow human, aesthetically-compatible deer fencing up to eight feet in height, without a building permit or variance.
- Adopting Local Law Introductory No. 38-2021 to establish Chapter 96 (Collateral Loan Brokers) of the Code of the Town of Huntington; at the request of the Town Clerk’s office, allowing the licensing of collateral loan brokers, or pawn shops, as set forth in Article 5 of the General Business Law, effective January 1, 2022.
- Adopting Local Law Introductory No. 39-2021 amending the Code of the Town of Huntington, Article IV (Storage of Junk Motor Vehicles on Residentially-Zoned or Residentially-Utilized Property) of Chapter 156 (Property Maintenance; Nuisances); establishing a fee schedule for the removal and storage of junk vehicles, offsetting costs to the Town.
- Adopting Local Law Introductory No. 40-2021 amending the Code of the Town of Huntington, Chapter 198 (Zoning), Article VI (Historic Landmarks and Districts), §198-42 (Designation of Sites and Buildings), to expand the Historic District known as Sammis Street to all of the parcels along the street.
- Adopting Local Law Introductory No. 41-2021 amending the Code of the Town of Huntington, Chapter A202 (Subdivision and Site Plan Regulations); to prohibit planting of particular invasive species as part of the development process.
- Authorizing various actions be taken upon certain properties designated as blighted in accordance with Chapter 156, Article VII, §156-60 (Blighted Property).
- Adopting Local Law Introductory No. 42-2021 amending the Code of the Town of Huntington, Chapter 198 (Zoning), Article XI (Conditional Uses; Supplementary Regulations), so as to add §198-68.2 (Uses Permitted by Planning Board); to allow the Planning Board to grant a limited number of special use permits for a residential apartment building under narrow circumstances to properties in a narrow geographic area, outside of but within 1,500 feet of the outer boundary of the five hamlet centers as long as the property is: within the C-6 General Business or C-6 Huntington Station Overlay District; is further within the limited area running from the outside boundary of one of the five hamlet centers defined in the Town Code and Comprehensive Plan, to 1,500 feet of that boundary; abuts a residential property; would not exceed the C-6 height limitation; and would not require a parking variance.
- The granting of a variance, the issuance of a special use permit and the execution of a license agreement pursuant to the Marine Conservation Law, Town Code Chapter 137 for the construction of a residential fixed pier and floating dock assembly. Applicant: Terry CullenLocation: 201 Woodbine Avenue, Northport, NYS.C.T.M. #0404-012.00-01.00-017.000.
- The issuance of a special use permit and the execution of a license agreement pursuant to the Marine Conservation Law, Town Code Chapter 137 for the construction of a residential fixed pier assembly. Applicant: Christopher SchubertLocation: 10 Bevin Road East, Northport, NYS.C.T.M. #0401-003.00-02.00-054.000.
In other action, the Town Board:
- Approved a contract for the Crab Meadow Beach Pavilion flat roof waterproofing project with Structural Contracting Services, Inc.
- Authorized the Heckscher Museum of Art to access restricted funds for use in the conservation of current artwork.
- Accepted a donation from the 1653 Foundation, Inc. to the Town of Huntington for the purchase and installation of a scoreboard at Breezy Park.
- Renamed East Second Street, Huntington Station, to be known as Dolores “Dee” Thompson Way/East Second Street.
- Appointed Rocio Rivas Lizama of Huntington Station, a volunteer with the Long Island Immigrant Student Advocates (LIISA), as a member of the Town of Huntington Hispanic Advisory Task Force.
- Appointed Robert Thomas of East Northport, to represent Elwood/Commack VFW #9263 on the Veterans Advisory Board, recommended by Post Commander John Carvajal, filling the vacancy created by the recent death of member Fred Amore.
- Approved a Hometown Heroes Banner Program within the Town of Huntington in conjunction with the Kiwanis Club of Huntington.
- Reappointed Martin Mandelker as a member of the Town of Huntington Citizens’ Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities.
- Reappointed Robert Fonti as a Commissioner of the Huntington Housing Authority.
- Authorized a lease agreement, in their capacity of the Board of the Community Development Agency, with the Family Service League for the purpose of renting space at the Huntington Opportunity Resource Center; as the Town Board, they also authorized the use of 10 parking spaces in Lot 26 for the use of the Family Service League in conjunction with their rental agreement.
