Due Dates

 
FIRST HALF-TAXES PAYABLE WITOUT PENALTY BY:

*When the due date falls on a weekend tax payor’s have until the following business day to pay their taxes. For 2024/2025 property owners will have until June 2, 2025
Please Note: The tax law in Suffolk County states that payment on a timely basis is the responsibility of the property owner, even if a tax bill has not been received. The property owner is liable for all penalties and interest on late payments.

PLEASE NOTE:

 *Property owners with a Senior Citizen & Low-Income exemption or Enhanced STAR exemption   deducted directly off their tax bill have until Friday, June 6, 2025, to pay their Second-Half taxes.

*Those receiving Enhanced STAR as a check directly from New York State - must pay by May 31, 2025. If you are unsure of your STAR exemption, contact NYS (518)457-2036
*Partial payment of taxes will be accepted in accordance with county legislature, which requires a minimum payment of $200 plus appropriate penalty or interest. (Interest & Penalty Calculation)

Mail-in or Bring-in your entire Statement of Taxes   

 
IF YOUR TAXES ARE PAID BY A BANK OR MORTGAGE COMPANY, IMMEDIATELY FORWARD THE TAX BILL DIRECTLY TO THEM FOR PAYMENT.   

 

WHEN PAYING BY CHECK OR MONEY ORDER



• Make checks/money orders payable to Jillian Guthman Esq, Receiver of Taxes
• Make sure to date and sign your check
• Be sure the dollar amount matches the written amount
• Include a telephone # on your check in case we have to contact you
• Payments must have a U.S. Postmark on or before the due date to be accepted
  without penalty.

  • RETURNED CHECK OR RETURNED E-CHECK WILL VOID YOUR TAX PAYMENT AND INCUR A $20 RETURNED CHECK CHARGE

  • RETURNED CHECKS CANNOT BE REDEPOSITED

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

SCHOOL TAXES:  SCHOOL BUDGETS ARE SET BY YOUR LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS.  EVERY YEAR YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO VOTE ON THE SCHOOL BUDGET.  THIS DETERMINES THE AMOUNT OF TAXES YOU WILL PAY FOR SCHOOLS IN YOUR DISTRICT.

COUNTY/POLICE TAXES: COUNTY AND COUNTY POLICE DISTRICT TAXES ARE SET BY A COUNTY BUDGET, APPROVED BY THE COUNTY EXECUTIVE AND LEGISLATURE.

TOWN TAXES: TOWN TAXES ARE SET BY A TOWN BUDGET APPROVED BY THE TOWN BOARD.

THE SCHOOL, COUNTY AND TOWN HAVE PUBLIC HEARINGS PRIOR TO THE APPROVAL OF THEIR BUDGETS. YOU MAY QUESTION THEIR BUDGETS AT THE PUBLIC HEARINGS. YOUR TAX BILL CONTAINS DETAILED INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR REAL PROPERTY TAX. THE FOLLOWING LIST EXPLAINS SOME OF THAT INFORMATION.

PART TOWN: TOWN TAXES PAID BY PROPERTY OWNERS WHOSE PROPERTY IS NOT IN AN INCORPORATED VILLAGE.

NY STATE REAL PROP TAX LAW: MONIES COLLECTED FOR THE COUNTY OF SUFFOLK TO PAY TAX GRIEVANCE, TAX CERTIORARI, AND OTHER SETTLEMENT OR JUDGMENT AWARDS.

STAR (SCHOOL TAX RELIEF):  THE ASSESSED VALUE OF YOUR PROPERTY FOR SCHOOL TAX PURPOSES HAS BEEN REDUCED BY STAR, THUS LOWERING THE AMOUNT OF TAX YOU MUST PAY TO YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT.

FULL VALUE, FULL EXEMPTION VALUE, AND DOLLAR AMOUNT SAVED BY EXEMPTIONS:IS LISTED FOR YOUR INFORMATION.

SWIS CODE (STATEWIDE INFORMATION SYSTEM): A STATE DETERMINED UNIQUE NUMBER ASSIGNED TO EACH MUNICIPAL CORPORATION WITHIN THE STATE.

UNIFORM % OF VALUE: PERCENTAGE OF FULL VALUE AT WHICH PROPERTY IS BEING ASSESSED.
