Proper Disposal of Liquid Paint

Liquid paint, primers, stains and varnishes must never be thrown out in regular garbage.

When the garbage truck collects the liquid paint and compacts it the paint can leak from the truck and damage the roadway, ruin private property and harm the environment.

The Town of Huntington has partnered with PaintCare to recycle leftover paint products! PaintCare Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, represents paint manufacturers (paint producers) to plan and operate paint stewardship programs in U.S. states that pass paint stewardship laws.

PaintCare makes recycling your leftover paint easy. Now you can take unwanted latex and oil-based paint, stain, varnish, and other accepted products for reuse or recycling. You can drop your products off at the Recycling Center (limit of five gallons per visit), or find a drop-off site near your home by using the PaintCare site locator

WHAT PRODUCTS ARE ACCEPTED BY PAINTCARE?

PaintCare sites accept house paint as well as primers, stains, sealers, and clear coatings such as shellac and varnish. Accepted products, also referred to as “PaintCare products” and “architectural coatings,” are the same ones that carry the PaintCare fee when purchased.

PaintCare sites do not accept aerosol coatings, solvents, and products designed and labeled to be used for industrial or non-architectural use.To be accepted for drop-off, PaintCare products must be in their original containers of no larger than 5 gallons in size, must have the original manufacturer’s printed label on the container, and must be covered with a secured lid. We cannot accept open or leaking cans.
