Commuter Parking

A Commuter Parking Permit is required to park Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding Holidays, in the municipal parking lots, or sections of lots, that are restricted to commuter permit parking at the LIRR train stations.* This includes:

  • Huntington (including the parking garage);
  • Cold Spring Harbor;
  • Greenlawn; and
  • Northport.

Resident and Non-Resident Commuter Parking Permits may be obtained through the Town Clerk's office.

*Some LIRR train stations have lots and parking areas with other restrictions, such as time-limited parking, metered parking, etc. Commuter Parking Permits may not be used in metered parking spots. Signs are posted at all of the LIRR train station lots indicating specific parking restrictions, including time limits and whether a permit or meter payment is required.

Failure to comply with the posted parking restrictions may result in the issuance of a citation.

Parking FAQs

Can I use my Commuter Parking Permit to park in the metered parking spots at the train station or on the road?

No. Commuter Parking Permits cover only the parking garage and municipal lots without individual numbered spots.

How can I access the Traffic Code online?

You can view the Huntington Traffic Code online by accessing this link: http://www.ecode360.com/HU0566

Select QUICKVIEW and then use the Search Tool in the upper right hand corner to find the related code.

The Town of Huntington Traffic Code can also be found toward the end of the Table of Contents. Example: You wish to view the Traffic Code for a ticket received for “Parking in a No Parking Zone”. The ticket will reference the Chapter and Section of the Code where you will find this under, “3-3A(1)”. Open up the chapter that reflects the first number in the violation, in this example, it would be Chapter TC3, the first number in the violation 3-3A(1). There you can then find the section that pertains to the violation you wish to view.

How can I obtain a Commuter Parking Permit for my vehicle?

The Town Clerk’s Office issues Resident and Non-Resident Commuter Parking Permits. You can contact the Town Clerk’s Office at 631-351-3206.

I received a Commuter Parking Permit and it indicates that I am to place the permit on the driver’s side rear window but I drive an unconventional vehicle (motorcycle, pick-up truck, convertible, soft-top, dark tint or no rear driver side window), where should I place my permit?

The Town understands that not all vehicles are able to conform to the standard for required placement of the Commuter Permit, therefore, if you have an unconventional vehicle (motorcycle, panel van, etc.), you must affix the permit in a readily visible location on the vehicle. Enforcement officers know to get out and look for these permits when they view an unconventional vehicle. Vehicles with an unaffixed permit will be cited as per the Town’s Traffic Code.

Where can I find information on parking summonses?

Information on parking summonses and how to pay or appeal a parking summons can be found here.
