5/17/2026 - LIRR Strike - Alternative Travel Options

Due to the ongoing Long Island Rail Road strike, the Town of Huntington would like to advise resident commuters of alternative travel options.

The Huntington Station LIRR has been designated as one of six shuttle bus locations on Long Island that will take riders to Queens subway stations for travel into the city. Buses are free and will run every 3-4 minutes during peak hours (toward Manhattan from 4:30 to 9:00am and to Long Island from 3 to 7pm); buses leaving from Huntington Station will drop commuters off at Jamaica-179th Street (F train) station, located at Hillside Avenue and 179th Street.

Passengers may also be dropped off at certain subway stations that are close to major roadways that lead to and from Long Island. All of the following stations are handicap-accessible: Far Rockaway-Mott Avenue (A); Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike (E, F); Ozone Park-Lefferts Boulevard (A); Sheepshead Bay (B, Q); Woodhaven Boulevard (J).
