Important Parking Meter Statement
From Supervisor Ed Smyth
The Huntington Town Board listened to the community and adopted an amended 2023 Operating Budget. The adopted budget eliminates the expansion of parking meters by eliminating unfilled jobs and reducing reserve funds.
Metering the central lots, while leaving the outer lots unmetered, encouraged apartment tenants and employees to park in the free outer lots, opening up spaces closest to stores and restaurants for customers.
There are a lot of competing interests for the limited municipal lots. There is no easy solution. The Town will continue working with the Business Improvement District, the Chamber of Commerce and residents to find a solution to create more parking turnover in our downtowns.
