Town of Huntington, NY - News Details

3/29/2022 - Progress on LIRR Huntington South Parking Lot to Continue This Week

Commuters Using South Parking Garage to Use Detour Next Few Days

Huntington Station – The Town of Huntington will continue work on the LIRR Huntington South Parking Lot earlier than anticipated over the next few days with paving of the driveway and other portions of the lot beginning, weather-dependent, as early as Friday, April 1 or Monday, April 4 and continuing next week.

Milling work on the driveway started and completed on Tuesday, preparing the subbase of the driveway for paving. Work will continue Wednesday, March 30, including injecting emulsion and fine grading over the next few days. Paving is anticipated to begin, weather-dependent, on Friday or Monday. Once the entire lot is repaved, the parking spaces will be striped and the installation of traffic signs will complete the project.

Commuters using the South Parking Garage facilities must continue east on East 2nd Street, past the driveway, and make a left onto Lenox Road to access the parking garage while work is being performed.  Commuters will be able to drive on the driveway overnight until paving begins.

Commuters Using South Parking Garage to Use Detour on Tuesday

Huntington Station – The Town of Huntington will begin milling the East 2nd Street entrance to the South Parking Lot at LIRR Huntington Train Station Tuesday, March 29; paving of the driveway will begin, weather-dependent, Monday, April 4.

“The weather is cooperating earlier in the season than we had anticipated,” said Supervisor Ed Smyth. “We are in the final stages of this commuter infrastructure improvement project, adding 29 new parking spaces, lighting and public safety improvements to the Huntington train station parking lot.”

Milling work on the driveway will start Tuesday at approximately 9:00 AM, preparing the subbase of the driveway for paving, which the Town anticipates will commence next Monday, April 4, also starting at approximately 9:00 AM. Commuters using the South Parking Garage facilities on Tuesday must continue east on East 2nd Street past the driveway and make a left onto Lenox Road to access the parking garage.

Mill work is expected to take one day, with paving also expected to take one day, depending on weather conditions. Commuters will be able to drive on the exposed subbase of the milled driveway from Tuesday night until paving begins next Monday.

This will complete one portion of the full parking lot repaving project, estimated to conclude in approximately 3-4 weeks, weather-dependent. The work requires dry weather conditions with temperatures of 50 degrees or higher for at least three (3) consecutive days.
