3/1/2022 - [VIDEO] Smyth, Huntington Officials Unveil Clock Tower Donated by Huntington Station BID Huntington Station – Supervisor Ed Smyth, Councilwoman Joan Cergol, Councilman Sal Ferro and Receiver of Taxes Jillian Guthman were joined by Town officials, the Huntington Station BID, and the Huntington Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon cutting at the clock tower donated by the BID to the Town on Tuesday, February 22 at the corner of Pulaski Road and New York Avenue. “The Huntington Station BID’s generous donation adds charm and character to this busy corner in downtown Huntington Station,” said Supervisor Ed Smyth. “While this clock tower is now officially keeping time on the revitalization of Huntington Station, the Town's recent historic investment of federal funds into expanding county sewer access to this area of downtown Huntington Station, we have never been closer to rectifying the failed promises of Urban Renewal so many decades past.” “I am grateful for the fine efforts of the Huntington Station BID. This street clock is another in a long line of significant beautification and revitalization initiatives the members of the BID Board have undertaken to improve and enhance this important downtown hamlet,” said Councilwoman Joan Cergol. "I remember coming to this corner, where the clock tower now stands, as a carpenter's apprentice forty years ago," said Councilman Sal Ferro. "It makes me proud to be involved now as Councilman, working with our partners in economic development, the Huntington Station BID, whose gift of this clock tower and landscaping represents the future of what is yet to come to downtown Huntington Station. Together, the business community and the Town government will continue to collaborate to do great things to move economic prosperity forward for all." “Thank you to the Huntington Station Bid and its dedicated members for the regal clock donation that serves as a beautiful reminder that the time has come for Huntington Station to re-emerge as the thriving jewel that it was before urban renewal,” said Receiver of Taxes Jillian Guthman. “I'm particularly proud of this clock tower because I look at it as something that's going to be everlasting,” said Frank Cosentino, President of the Huntington Station Business Improvement District. “I'm especially proud of all our fellow board members and all the work they do, I really appreciate this day in support of permanent improvements to our downtown.” Joining the event with the Town elected officials were Town of Huntington Community Development Agency Director Leah Jefferson, Department of General Services Director Bill Musto, and Department of Public Safety Director Joe Cirigliano, Public Safety Deputy Director Kevin McCormick, and Town African American Task Force member Ken Johnson. Joining Huntington Station Business Improvement District (BID) President Frank Cosentino were BID Vice President Dee Thompson, Treasurer Kyle Albers, and members Maria Lella, Andrea Bonilla, Monica Murphy, Frank Ofrias, and Joel Salas. Also joining the press conference were Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce Chairwoman Vita Scaturro and Acting Secretary Kelly Smith. At the October 13, 2021 Town Board meeting, the Town Board accepted a donation from the Huntington Station Business Improvement District of an electric clock tower and landscaping consisting of plantings, pavers and mulch. The clock tower was installed by the Town’s Department of General Services in December. At the December 14, 2021 Town Board meeting, the Town Board approved an intermunicipal agreement with the County of Suffolk to transfer the Town’s $22,209,010 in American Rescue Plan Act Funds to the County of Suffolk for the construction of the Huntington Station Hub Sewer Infrastructure Project, spanning the New York Avenue/Route 110 Corridor from the Huntington LIRR Train Station to 14th Street with additional adjacent parcels to the east and west.
