Town of Huntington, NY - News Details

7/9/2021 - Tropical Storm Elsa Status of Town Services Update from Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci (last updated Friday 10:00am)
THE MAIN ISSUE WE’RE DEALING WITH: FLOODING

As you can imagine, we have received an overwhelming number of calls regarding flooded streets. All pump crews are currently dispatched.

•    Report flooding and downed trees blocking roads to Highway at 631-499-0444 or at HuntingtonNY.gov/Highway (keep in mind the Town cannot start its work until live wire hazards have been removed by PSEGLI)

•    Report emergencies to 911 or call Town of Huntington Public Safety 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 631-351-3234.

AFFECTED TOWN SERVICES: (Keep checking this page for the latest status)

TRASH & RECYCLING:

•    Residential Trash Collection ran on schedule; there may be missed pickups due to flooding – they are compiling a list of affected routes but you can report missed pickups to huntingtonny.gov/trash or call 631-351-3186

•    The Recycling Center at 641 New York Avenue is open today (8am-4pm)

•    Note: This is not a yardwaste collection week (check trash & recycling calendar for yardwaste collection dates).

•    Our liquid scavenger waste facility is open for emergency pump outs -- we are anticipating flow capacity issues due to rain but if we have to close, we will try to reopen this afternoon if the rain subsides and flow capacity is no longer an issue.

HART BUS:

•    Running on regular schedule with 5-10 minute delays due to street flooding.

•    The H10 eastbound fixed route line is operating with a minor detour to avoid a 3-block section of West Pulaski Road that is flooded in Huntington Station near Railroad Street.

PARKS & REC:

•    All Beaches are closed.
•    Dix Hills Pool is closed.
•    Camp Soundview & Playground Camp are cancelled.
•    Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo Memorial Spray Park is closed for repairs.
•    Dix Hills Adventure Camp is on as scheduled
•    Dix Hills Ice Rink is open.

SENIOR CENTER:

•    BINGO is cancelled today.
•    The Senior Beach House at Centerport Beach is closed today.

HARBORMASTER:

•    Our marinas are in good shape, boats are being checked for rain water.
•    At this point we are finding rain-driven flooding in our beach parking lots but no damage or any bad erosion.

Be safe, stay indoors, watch for falling trees, branches and stay away from downed wires.
