“Our Adult
Day Care program offers flexible service, providing socialization opportunities
in a safe, happy and structured environment for the participant but also to
provide respite for the caregiver,” said Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci.
Since 1984,
Town of Huntington Adult Day Care has offered extraordinary social model day
care services for Huntington’s mature adult community. The wide range of
programs, resources, facilities, and staff are available to all Suffolk County
residents sixty years of age and older (younger in some instances). Town of
Huntington Adult Day Care caters to those individuals who are experiencing
decreased levels of physical and cognitive abilities, including those with
dementia or Alzheimer’s disease who are in need of supervision in a safe and
structured environment.
Services
are available Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm at 423 Park Avenue,
Huntington. Members may attend one to five days per week. A continental
breakfast and nutritious main meal are served daily with assorted snacks and
beverages available throughout the day. Huntington Adult Day Care provides a
structured program of daily activities, crafts, parties with live
entertainment, and day trips that help maintain physical and cognitive
abilities, socialization, companionship and enhanced self-esteem.
The Town’s
Senior Division social worker offers caregivers monthly evening and daytime
support groups, referrals, assistance, and semi-annual events.
Individual
transportation, with handicapped accessibility, is provided free of charge for
Town of Huntington residents. Fees are budget-friendly and are accepted by some
long-term care insurance plans and Medicaid managed care providers. The Suffolk
County Office for the Aging (SCOFA) respite care grant may pay for one to two
days per week for those who qualify. Funding for Huntington Adult Day Care is
provided by Town of Huntington, the Administration for Community Living through
New York State Office for the Aging, and Suffolk County Office for the Aging.
