Halesite
– Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci, Captain James Schneider of the James Joseph II,
Jim Howard and Jerry Giuseppone of the Suffolk County Senior Citizens Fishing
Club, and John Schoenig and Bob Gordon of the Imperial Sportsmen’s Club of Long
Island, were joined by winners of their jointly-sponsored “Take a Kid Fishing”
Trip on Tuesday, July 30 at the Town of Huntington dock at Halesite Marina
prior to the fishing boat launching for the trip.
“I want
to thank the Suffolk County Senior Citizens Fishing Club and the Imperial
Sportsmen’s Club of Long Island for donating their time to educate these kids
about fishing and conservation and special thanks to Captain James Schneider of
the James Joseph II for donating this prime time from his business for these
children to expose them to this great American pastime,” said Supervisor Chad
A. Lupinacci, adding: “Thank you also to resident Paul Travaglia, who we just
learned donated five pizzas from Di Raimo Pizzeria for this trip today!”

Captain
James Schneider of the James Joseph II said: “We want to get more and more kids
involved in fishing and the environment. I’ve been fishing in this town since I
was two years old and having the opportunity to give 30 free fishing trips away
to kids from our community each year is a small way for us to show our appreciation
to the town for everything they’ve given to us for the 33 years we’ve been in
business.” For more information about the James Joseph II fishing boat, contact

"Fishing
allows a person to commune with nature, have quiet time to reflect, socialize,
develop patience, skills and self-confidence. These are all great things for
youth. It also shows how people relate to nature and conservation. That is why
the members of the Suffolk County Senior Citizens' Fishing Club sponsor the
Take a Kid Fishing program," said Jim Howard of the Suffolk County Senior
Citizens' Fishing Club. For more information about the Suffolk County Senior
Citizens' Fishing Club, contact Loris Arnold at (631) 793-6598.
"The
Imperial Sportsmen's Club has been doing this for 18 years, 9 years with the
Town of Huntington. We want to give back to the community, show the youngsters
the fun of salt water fishing and teach them about conservation and preserving
our natural resources," said John Schoenig of the Imperial Sportsmen's
Club of Long Island. For more information about the Imperial Sportsmen's Club
of Long Island, contact (631) 258-9714 and leave a message.
The
four-hour fishing trip on the James Joseph II disembarked at 12:00 PM and
returned at 4:00 PM. Crew of the James Joseph II provided fishing equipment and
instruction; four fishing club members provided individual assistance and tips
on fishing and conservation. The fishing clubs generously donate their time and
expertise to this initiative every year for the past 18 years – 9 with the Town
of Huntington. Resident Paul Travaglia surprised attendees with free pizza
delivered by Di Raimo Pizzeria at the Town dock.

Entrants into the contest were
required to be Town of Huntington residents, age 9-13 as of the trip date,
Tuesday, July 30. Winners were selected by lottery drawing on Tuesday, July 9.
