Huntington
Station – Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci and Girl Scout Service Unit 12 from
South Huntington participated in a tree planting beautification project in observance
of Arbor Day at Manor Field Park on April 17.
“Arbor Day
falls on April 26th this year. Officially, it’s the last Friday in April but we
like to get a head start here in Huntington! The Town received funding from a
New York State DEC Urban and Community Forestry Grant to plant 84 trees with
the match being provided by EOSPA,” said Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci. “Thank
you to our Girl Scouts and Brownies, who are here to help beautify and preserve
Huntington’s green space and for doing this important volunteer work on behalf
of our community.”

The Town of
Huntington received funding to plant 84 trees from a NYS DEC Urban and
Community Forestry Grant with the match being provided by the Town’s Open Space
(EOSPA) Committee. The planting started in early April and a majority of the
trees were installed prior to the event. Girl Scouts and Brownies from South
Huntington Service Unit 12 helped complete the planting of the final four trees
at the Town’s Arbor Day observance event after on-site educational lectures,
developed and presented by Elana Israel-Edgar of the Town’s Department of
Planning and Environment, along with Christian Granelli and David Kaufman, also
Planning Aides for the Town.

Christine
Reilly, Co-Coordinator of Girl Scout Service Unit 12, located in Huntington
Station, and Troop Leader for Troop 239, had coordinated the day’s event with
Israel-Edgar.
