The Town of Huntington and the Citizens Campaign for the Environment are hosting a community forum on Thursday, September 29th from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Town Board Room at which attendees can learn how we can protect our harbors, bays and estuaries using green infrastructure. As part of the forum, the Town will present details of the new, major, innovative project for Centerport Beach that will utilize bio-swales, rain gardens, and permeable pavement to protect the harbor and Long Island Sound.
Rainwater and snowmelt flow across roads, parking lots, rooftops, and other impervious surfaces and pick up harmful pollutants; such as heavy metals, oil, pesticides, and sediment, that ultimately end up in our beaches and bays. Polluted runoff is one of the leading causes of pollution to our waters. Green infrastructure is a network of decentralized stormwater management practices, such as rain gardens, green roofs, trees, and permeable pavement, which can capture and infiltrate rain where it falls.
The event is free and open to the public
