Huntington High School grad Chris Strub, who has been volunteering with youth groups across the country, visits the Town’s Project Play and St. John’s camps

Huntington Station – Twenty years ago, Christ Strub was a student at the school then called Huntington Elementary. On August 10 of this year. Chris, who turns 30 later this month, returned to the building, now the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet school, as part of his project visiting youth programs in all 50 states over a 100-day period that began May 15.
Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone was on hand to greet Chris as he arrived at the Town’s Project Play and St. John’s Camps, which are held at the school. Supervisor Petrone wrote an inspirational message --- “be all that you can be” – on Chris’ car, which is a moving chronicle of his stops around the country.
Supervisor Petrone also answered Chris’ questions about Huntington and its commitment to youth that Chris recorded for broadcast on the social media site SnapChat.
Chris spoke with the campers, telling them about his travels and answering questions before joining them in a dance and playing the game foursquare with them on the playground. In his remarks, he spoke of the importance of volunteering and about how the kids should dream and try to achieve those dreams.
Chris is a 2003 graduate of Huntington High School who earned his college degree at Binghamton University and worked at the Binghamton Press before moving to South Carolina last year. He has chronicled his trip on various social media sites – Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat and Meerkat – as well as on his website, www.teamstrub.com.
