4/19/2016 - Petrone Receives Sons of Italy Golden Lion Award
Garden City, NY – The Order of the Sons of Italy in America bestowed its prestigious Golden Lion Award on Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone at its 34th Anniversary Dinner April 15 at the Garden City Hotel.
The OSIA’s New York Grand Lodge Foundation, which sponsored the dinner, recognized Supervisor Petrone for his “vision, leadership and determination,” and called him a “gentleman and proven leader.”
The OSIA noted, “As Supervisor, Mr. Petrone has been instrumental in promoting and celebrating the Town’s cultural and ethnic diversity, as exemplified by his lead role in bringing the Long Island Columbus Day Parade to Huntington and in maintaining the Town’s role as a sponsor of this annual event, which highlights Italian Americans’ contributions to our country. Supervisor Petrone has spent his entire professional life dedicated to public service and to high ethical standards and family values, making him a political Italian American role model.”
In his remarks accepting the award, Supervisor thanked the Sons of Italy and spoke of the importance of role models in shaping our lives, including parents and those who take an interest in your education. 
The OSIA New York Grand Lodge Foundation Inc. was created to carry out the cultural, educational and philanthropic endeavors of the OSIA. The Foundation supports major charitable organizations such as the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation, the Alzheimer’s Association, the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism as well as cancer research and many other worthwhile causes. Major Foundation programs include the Commission for Social Justice, the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, the OSIA Gift of Sight program, the Lion’s Pride Day Care and Learning Center, a non-profit senior housing project and a highly-regarded statewide scholarship and grant program.
