Government

The Town of Huntington is a municipal corporation governed by New York State Law, the policy making body of which is the Town Board, made up of the Supervisor and the four Council members, elected at-large and who serve four-year terms. The Town Board enacts local laws and codes, adopts an annual budget. It also appoints department directors and deputies, who with Supervisor are responsible for carrying out the day-to-day executive functions of Town government.

The Supervisor and Council members also sit as the Town's Board of Trustees, with the Supervisor serving as President, who manage the leasing, sale and use of Town properties, most typically involving waterfront and underwater lands.

In addition, there are three officials elected at-large who serve four year terms whose powers are administrative: Town Clerk, Receiver of Taxes and Superintendent of Highways.
