Environmental Waste Management
Department Hours: Monday – Friday (8:00 am – 4:00 pm)
Huntington's Environmental Waste Management Department is responsible for the environmentally sound disposal of solid waste within the Town and sanitary sewage disposal from the Huntington and Centerport Sewer Districts.
Federal, State and local regulations often require specific disposal methods that must be followed. These regulations address mandatory recycling, proper handling of hazardous materials and environmental protection as it pertains specifically to the disposal of both solid and liquid wastes. The collection and disposal rules set by the Department are often mandated by these regulations.
Environmental Waste Management’s mission is to maintain a world-class waste management system that benefits our community and environment. Our goal is to serve our community by providing a comprehensive solid waste management system that is environmentally, socially and financially sound.
Through innovative strategies such as waste reduction, recycling, composting, and education we make our community a more healthy and sustainable place to live. And by utilizing state of the art “energy from waste” technology at the Resource Recovery Facility we can create electrical power with your curbside garbage.
