Lupinacci is inviting the public to a flag retirement ceremony in honor of Flag
Day co-hosted by the Town of Huntington and Covanta, in partnership with the
Huntington Veterans Advisory Board, local Long Island veterans groups,
including the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Suffolk County
Veterans Services Agency, and others on Friday, June 14 at 11:00 AM at the
Covanta Huntington facility at 99 Town Line Road, East Northport.
“Proper flag disposal is a challenge
that many veteran groups face. Covanta Huntington and partners from Long Island
veterans groups are launching a new program to properly and reverently dispose
of old, worn United States flags,” said Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci. “I
welcome veterans and residents to RSVP while space is still available for this
special event.”
Town officials will be joined by
Town of Smithtown Supervisor Ed Wehrheim, Suffolk County Legislator Susan
Berland, Chairwoman, Committee for Veteran Affairs, Thomas Ronayne, Director,
Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency, and Daniel Caraccio, Vice President,
Covanta Municipal Services, Retired Major General Anthony Kropp, Veterans
Advisory Board members, Nathan Hale VFW #1469, Elwood/Commack VFW #9263,
Greenlawn American Legion #1244, Northport American Legion #694, Huntington
American Legion #360, Huntington Det. Marine Corps League #792, Jewish War
Veterans #488, Combat Infantrymen’s Association, Disabled American Veterans
Chapter 19 and others.

HART Bus shuttle will be available starting at 9:45 AM at Veterans Park, 279
Bellerose Avenue, East Northport. Lunch will be served at the event.
The Covanta Huntington Energy-from-Waste
facility provides environmentally safe municipal solid waste disposal for the
Town of Huntington and Town of Smithtown.
