Town of Huntington, NY - News Details

8/1/2018 - Town Offering 10% Off at Crab Meadow Golf Course While Three Vandalized Greens are Repaired

Northport – The Town of Huntington Crab Meadow Golf Course is offering a 10% discount on greens fees in response to the placement of temporary greens, due to vandalism, at holes 1, 11 and 17.

“It’s a shame that someone would attempt to destroy one of the Town’s great recreational attractions,” said Supervisor Lupinacci. “Don’t let them spoil your fun -- I encourage all who enjoy golf to take advantage of our discounted rates while the three greens are repaired.”

The 10% discount will be taken off all greens fees, excluding the demand-based pricing promotion implemented earlier this year.

The vandalism occurred between the hours of 9:00 PM Monday, July 30, when the final golf cart was returned, and 2:00 AM Tuesday July, 31, when a golf course manager arrived. Four greens were damaged: one of the greens sustained insignificant damage, which the Town is repairing in-house. Three temporary greens have been established for holes 1, 11 and 17, where significant damage occurred. Repairs are estimated to take from 4 to 6 weeks.

The Town has filed a police report and the Public Safety Department is ramping up park ranger and security patrols immediately in response to the incident. Information on the crime can be reported by calling 1-800-220-TIPS (1-800-220-8477).

The Town established a pilot promotion late this spring to drive up non-resident business, which has been a success. The golf course offers discounted rates during off-peak hours, reducing rates to tee off for non-residents and residents without a Golf Card. Non-residents were paying $46 for tee times between 11am and 3pm Tuesday through Thursday; the new pricing model reduces that rate to $29 and $21 for seniors and disabled persons, the rates residents pay with the Town of Huntington Golf Card. Residents who do not purchase the Golf Card can also take advantage of the new weekday rates.

Overall numbers are up for the golf course. “We hosted approximately one thousand rounds of golf this weekend, which is much higher than usual,” said Town Director of Parks and Recreation Greg Wagner.

The 18-hole Crab Meadow Golf Course features 6,598 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 71.3 and it has a slope rating of 131 on Blue grass. Designed by William F. Mitchell, ASGCA, the Crab Meadow golf course opened in 1965.
