Town of Huntington - Highlights

12/10/2016 - Petrone, Edwards Celebrate Holiday with Adult Day Care Clients and Their Families
Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone and Councilwoman Tracey A. Edwards helped ring in the season with the Town's Adult Day Care clients December 4 at a holiday party in which they recognized the Melville Lions Club for sponsoring the party for the past 30 years.

Approximately 75 persons attended the event, including 19 adult day care clients, 17 caregivers and 18 members of the Melville Lions, led by president Art Pushkin, who received a proclamation from Supervisor Petrone and Councilwoman Edwards in which the Town Board thanked the Lions for their three decades of supporting the party. The Lions also received a proclamation from Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci. For their part, the Lions presented a certificate of appreciation to Matt Rocco, who donated his services as disk jockey.

Lunch was donated by the Whitman Delicatessen; a sheet cake was donated by Reinwald's Bakery and Lowe's Commack store provided the poinsettias.

The adult day care program has offered social model day care services for the mature adult community since 1984. Its wide range of programs, resources, facilities and staff are available to all Suffolk County residents sixty years of age and older (younger in some instances). The program caters to those individuals who are experiencing decreased levels of physical and cognitive abilities, including those with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease who are in need of supervision in a safe and structured environment.

Services are available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. A continental breakfast and nutritious main meal are served daily with assorted snacks and beverages available throughout the day. The program provides structured daily activities, crafts, parties with live entertainment and day trips that help maintain physical and cognitive abilities, socialization, companionship and self-esteem.
