9/11/2014 - Solemn Ceremony Marks Town’s 9-11 Observance

Huntington marked the 13th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center with a solemn ceremony whose centerpiece was reading the names of the 43 Huntington residents who perished in the terrorist act.

As about 20 family members of the victims looked on, Supervisor Frank P. Petrone, Councilwomen Susan A. Berland and Tracey Edwards, Town Clerk Jo-Ann Raia and Receiver of Taxes Ester Bivona shared the honor of reading the list.

A bell chimed as each name was read, and a rose was placed in a vase at the foot of the 9-11 Memorial in Heckscher Park, where the ceremony was held. Also joining in the ceremony were members of the Town’s Veterans Advisory Board; the color guard came from the Huntington Detachment of the Marine Corps League; and the roses were donated by Brueggemann’s Funeral Home at the request of the Huntington Kiwanis Club.
