9/13/2019 - Lupinacci Announces Free HART Fixed Route Fares on Friday, September 20 to Promote Car Free Day

Encourages Residents to Pledge to Commute Sustainably and Enter to Win Prizes

Huntington – Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci announced the Town of Huntington will be waiving fares for the Huntington Area Rapid Transit (HART) Bus Fixed Route service on Friday, September 20 to promote sustainable commuting for Car Free Day, an initiative of Transit Solutions.

 

“Commuting sustainably, by going car-free or car-light, helps reduce traffic and parking problems, conserves energy, improves air quality and saves you money,” said Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci. “On Friday, September 20th, ride for free on the Town’s HART fixed route bus service to commemorate Car Free Day!”

 

HART Bus operates a network of four (4) regularly scheduled bus routes that provide affordable basic mobility to the general public within the greater Huntington area. HART Bus routes connect with neighboring bus systems operated by Suffolk County Transit, Nassau Inter-County Express and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR). HART Bus fixed route buses are accessible to individuals with disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs and other assistance devices.

 

  • H10: Commack - Cold Spring Harbor (via E. Northport, Greenlawn, Huntington Sta., Huntington)
  • H20: South Huntington - Halesite (via Walt Whitman Shops, Huntington Sta., Huntington)*
  • H30: Walt Whitman Shops - Halesite (via S. Huntington, Huntington Sta., Elwood, Greenlawn, Centerport, Huntington)*
  • H40: Walt Whitman Shops - VA Medical Center (via S. Huntington, Elwood, E. Northport, Northport)

 

*Stops at the Huntington Senior Citizens Center at 423 Park Avenue, Huntington.

In a public service announcement, Supervisor Lupinacci is also encouraging Huntington residents to enter to win great prizes by joining the Town of Huntington Commuter Challenge and pledging to commute sustainably for Long Island’s 7th Annual Car Free Day, taking place on Friday, September 20.

 

Pledges to go car-free or car-light for Car Free Day will enroll residents for a chance to win prizes, including bikes, gift cards and theatre tickets, as well as 4 tickets each to a live taping of Rachel Ray and Live with Kelly and Ryan.

Transit Solutions works to improve air quality on Long Island by promoting the use of transit options. Car Free Day is an international event celebrated every September in which people are encouraged to get around without cars and instead ride a train, bus, bicycle, carpool, subway or walk.
