1/3/2018 - LUPINACCI DECLARES SNOW EMERGENCY EFFECTIVE 12:01 A.M. JANUARY 4
With a blizzard warning in effect for a storm expected to start overnight, Huntington Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci has declared a snow emergency, effective at 12:01 a.m. January 4, and cancelled all Thursday activities and scheduled meetings at Town facilities.
Among the cancellations is the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting that had been scheduled for 6 p.m. The meeting has been rescheduled for April 12.
“The forecast is for a significant storm, with difficult driving conditions and dangerous wind chills.” Supervisor Lupinacci said. “Residents should stay off the roads, and make sure to park their cars off the streets to facilitate plowing and access for emergency vehicles. We want everybody to stay safe.”
Under a snow emergency, the Supervisor has the power to close roads, appropriate necessary equipment from all sources and make necessary purchases without following usual procedures. The declaration makes available to the Highway Department equipment and personnel to assist Highway Department crews.
The cancelled activities include all activities and programs at the Village Green Senior Center; Adult Day Care; all activities at the Dix Hills Ice Rink, Parks Department programs at local schools and at Coindre Hall; and all Youth Bureau programs.
Town Hall will be open, but with limited services. Persons are asked to call 631-351-3234 to determine is a trip to Town Hall will be worthwhile. UPDATE; Town Hall closed at 3 p.m. The Tax Receiver's office closes at noon. The tax receiver notes that all first half tax payments postmarked on or before January 10, 2018, will be considered timely and note that anyone with questions can call the office on Friday, when office hours resume.
Public bid openings and public bids due on January 4 have been postponed for one day, to January 5.
The weekly recyclables pickup has been cancelled. Residents should not put recyclables out to the curb until the next scheduled pickup date, Wednesday January 10. Commercial pickups are still scheduled for businesses in Huntington Village and Huntington Station that have evening curbside collection. But the businesses should check the Town’s website, Facebook page or Twitter feed for updates. UPDATE; Commercial pickups were cancelled.
HART bus paratransit service is cancelled. A decision about fixed route service will be made in the morning. UPDATE: FIXED ROUTE SERVICE HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
