Emergency repair work on the top deck of the South Parking Garage at the Huntington train station will result in a total of 228 spaces on the fourth and fifth levels being unavailable beginning this week and running through March.
The work, which is being done on the fifth level, includes removing parking deck concrete in certain areas, repairing some post-tensioned cables and installing a new, epoxy-coated welded wire steel fabric for reinforcement. While the work is confined to the fifth level, parking stalls on the fourth level are being closed to protect persons and vehicles from being affected by falling debris.
Affected parking includes 112 stalls on the fifth level (located on the northern lane of the parking deck and the eastern half of the bridge), and 116 stalls on the fourth level (located directly below the 5th level work areas). The Town hopes that some of the fourth level stalls can be reopened once the concrete removal work is completed.
Commuters are advised to use the municipal parking lot on the west side of New York Avenue, north of the train tracks, between Railroad and Church Streets.
