10/10/2014 - Petrone, Council Take Part in Columbus Wreath Ceremony

 

Huntington – Supervisor Frank P. Petrone and members of the Town Council took part October 9 in the annual ceremony placing a wreath at the statue of Christopher Columbus in advance of the Long Island Columbus Day Parade that the Town hosts.

Supervisor Petrone was joined by Council Members Mark Cuthbertson, Susan A. Berland and Tracey A. Edwards, as well as Tax Receiver Ester Bivona, County Legis. Dr. William Spencer and Assemblymen Chad Lupinacci and Andrew Raia in welcoming the Long Island region of the Order of the Sons of Italy in America, which annually presents the parade. Representing the sons of Italy were Keith Wilson, the parade committee chair; Roberti Fonti, a parade committee member; and Anthony Naccarato, former parade committee chair and current State Orator.

The parade kicks off at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, October 12, from the Huntington YMCA just east of Town Hall and continues west on Main Street through Huntington village to the statue. Grand marshals of the parade are Sons of Italy State President Joseph Rondinelli, WHLI radio personality Joe Satta, actor/singer Robert Davi and 103-year-old Beatrice Ganci, honorary Sons of Italy member.
