1/31/2018 - Lupinacci Attends Ceremony Marking Gandhi’s Death
Hauppauge – Huntington Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci attended a special ceremony January 29 marking the 70th anniversary of the assassination of noted pacifist Mahatma Gandhi, whose campaign in the 1940s led to the creation of an independent India.
Sponsored by the Volunteers of Shanti Fund and the Long Island Multi-Faith Forum, the program, “My Life is My Message,” included presentations, poetry reading and devotional songs centering on the tenets of Gandhi’s life, representing a broad spectrum of religions and sects: Christian, Jewish, Islam, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Baha’i, Zoroastrian, Brahama, Jain and Unitarian Universalist. It was held at the Gandhi statue that graces the lobby of the H. Lee Dennison County Office Building.
“This was a remarkable coming together of representatives of many faiths to help spread Gandhi’s powerful message for peace that still resonates today, 70 years after his death,” Supervisor Lupinacci said. “I was honored to attend and moved by the message.”
