Town of Huntington - Highlights

5/21/2015 - Citizens Campaign for the Environment Honors Petrone

Woodbury – Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone received the Citizens Campaign for the Environment’s Environmental Equinox Award at the group’s 30th Anniversary Celebration at the Woodbury Country Club May 20.

Citizens Campaign executive director Adrienne Esposito presented the award to Supervisor Petrone, which recognized his leadership in “protecting and restoring our bays, championing recycling programs and working to make the Town of Huntington an environmental leader on Long Island,” according to the letter notifying the Supervisor that he would be receiving the award. The letter added, “We honor your commitment and dedication to our environment and believe you have created a model for other towns throughout Long Island and New York.”

In her remarks making the presentation, Ms. Esposito highlighted the three open space bond issues the Supervisor has championed during his 21 years in office, upgrades to the Town’s sewer plant and his creation of the Northport Harbor Water Quality Protection Committee, which he and Ms. Esposito co-chair. The committee helped obtain state and county funds to upgrade the Northport sewer plant and brought about an historic agreement among Huntington and the villages of Northport and Asharoken to work jointly on seeking funds to improve water quality in the harbor and in establishing uniform policies and regulations regarding water quality.

Joining Supervisor Petrone as honorees were John Durso, president of the Long Island Federation of Labor, and LI Federation executive director Roger Clayman. Ms. Esposito cited their work in support of sustainable energy projects.

With 80,000 members in New York and Connecticut, the non-partisan, non-profit Citizens Campaign is New York’s largest grassroots organization, with a multifaceted ability to communicate and connect with the public.
