5/6/2015 - Petrone, Town Council Recognize 8-year-old Designer

An eight-year-old budding fashion designer from East Northport, whose creations were displayed at New York City Fashion Week in February, received special recognition from Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone and the Town Board at its May 5 meeting.

Lia Edlin Miller, a student at Dickinson Avenue Elementary School, started modeling at age seven and, inspired by watching the television show “Project Runway,” began taking sewing lessons and participated in a young designer’s competition that involved creating pieces for New Jersey Fashion Week incorporating Crayola crayon wrappers. That led to an invitation to participate in a children’s showcase at New York Fashion Week, where she has modeled three times previously.

“She has proven to be a special, special person,” Supervisor Petrone said in presenting a proclamation to Lia. “We will see you on TV!”
