Board Declares April “Organ Donation Month” in Huntington

The Huntington Town Board, at its April 8 meeting, declared April “Organ Donation Month” in the Town and urged residents to consider participating in the New York State Donate Life Registry.

The Town Board noted that more than 10,000 people in New York State are on the waiting list for a transplant and that the number of persons on the waiting list far exceeds the number of donors. The Board noted that every 15 hours, someone in New York dies waiting for an organ.

Declaring April as Organ Donation Month, the Board said, will provide an opportunity to help people learn more about organ donation; to recognize the critical need for organ, eye, tissue, bone marrow and blood donation; and assist the thousands of patients awaiting transplantation.

To increase the awareness, and to help people sign up to be part of the registry, the Town has placed a link to the New York Organ Donor Network at the bottom of the home page on the Town’s website. Persons can also go directly to the site.
