Town Clerk Andrew P. Raia                                                                          News


The Town Clerk, as Secretary to the Town Board and Board of Trustees, attends all Town Board Meetings and is responsible for Town Board and Board of Trustees minutes, legal notices, certifications of Town records and filing of change of zone applications.  The Town Clerk is Commissioner of Licenses for New York State for the issuing of Sporting (hunting and fishing) licenses, Marriage Licenses, Disability Parking Permits, and authority for issuance of Bingo and Games of Chance Licenses.  This office also issues various Local Licenses: Shellfish, Vehicles for Hire, Tow Truck, Peddlers and Solicitors, Refuse, Dogs, Automobile Junk Yard and Commuter Parking Permits.

 The Town Clerk serves as Registrar of Vital Statistics for the issuance and recording of Birth and Death Certificates, Commissioner of Elections for Special Elections held within the Town, and is Records Management Officer as the Records Center and Archives are also under the jurisdiction of the Town Clerk.  As Marriage Officer for the Town of Huntington, the Town Clerk has legal authority to perform civil Marriage Ceremonies.

BIO

Andrew P. Raia, Town Clerk of the Town of Huntington, was first elected in November 2019 to a term commencing January 1, 2020. His current four-year term expires on December 31, 2023. As a former New York State Assemblyman serving from 2003-2019, Mr. Raia was elected to serve nine terms in the Assembly representing the 12th Assembly District, which consists of parts of the Towns of Huntington, Babylon and Islip. Mr. Raia, born and raised in the Town of Huntington, received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1991. Prior to his time serving in the Assembly, Mr. Raia served for twelve years as a senior staff member in legislative offices of the State Assembly and State Senate, as well as the Suffolk County Legislature.

In addition to spending his entire career in public service, Town Clerk Andrew Raia has also served on the Executive Boards of the Huntington Boys and Girls Club, Huntington Freedom Day Care Center, Huntington Station Enrichment Center, the Nursing Advisory Board of SUNY Farmingdale, Perspectives on Youth, and M’Yad L’Yad Helping Hands. He also belongs to many different fraternal organizations which place a strong emphasis on community service, including the Knights of Columbus Father Thomas A. Judge Council in East Northport, Order of the Sons of Italy in America (OSIA), the Chambers of Commerce throughout the Town of Huntington, the Koumbaro Club of St. Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Church, the America Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), as well as the Huntington, Northport, and Greenlawn-Centerport Historical Societies.

Mr. Raia will also be conducting educational tours of Huntington Town Hall and the Town’s Archives upon request, as numerous civic, community, school and scouting organizations have benefited from these tours in the past.
